Corruption, corruption, corruption. ...................A lot of hoopla is attached to this word lately and everybody who think they are some body are trying their luck and making some bucks in the 15 min of fame. When a child is born, as parents we preach them about truth, justice, sacrifice so on and so forth and it is said that these things get so hardwired into our psyche that they remain in our minds forever, if that is so than why the heck we follow the path of corruption or any of the illicit crimes?
This phenomenon is not just in India but has consumed the mind and soul of people around the world. We with our ignorant mind and shallow knowledge think that if "jasmine revolution" can take the world by storm ,giving all together a new definition to sovereignty, liberty and freedom so can we follow the same road for justice through hunger- strikes and protest marches.
Lately a much debatable hunger strike by an eminent figure of indian politics and a luminary sage to get the Lokpal Bill passed in the assembly . Though they were on strike, they feeded themselves on the vagueness of general people It is here i fail to understand why these harbinger of truth or the 'Satyagrahi' as they would aspire to call themselves follow the real path developed by Mahatma Gandhi, which even inspired the likes of Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King Jr.For Mahatma Gandhi, the movement was to stimulate the non -violent path of self suffering.Unlike Gandhi, our modern day savant pursuit themselves in the direction where they can get enough media attention from around the world adding to their fan following ,which is a far cry from the original.
Gandhi's statement to Disorders Inquiry Committee ,January 5,1920 described it as follows-
"I have also called it love force or soul force. In the application of Satyagraha, I discovered in the earliest stages the pursuit of truth did not admit of violence being inflicted on one's opponent but he must be weaned with error with patience and compassion. For what appears to be truth to one may appear to be error to the other. And patience means self-suffering.So this doctrine came to mean the vindication of truth, not by infliction of suffering on the opponent, but on oneself"
Gandhiji in another statement in Requisite Qualification,Harijan 25 March, 1939 said-
" Satyagrahi's object is to convert and not to coerce, the wrong doer"
The word Satyagraha means "Truth Holding Firmly To" but it never meant " Blackmail" which our modern day saffron garb clad mahatmas are representing. Irony is that these so called mahatmas with so much money in their trusts have failed to even support any government in the up-liftment of the society or doing any benefit for the masses rather with their honey laced talks they are just playing the mind games. They are no better than our political leaders, which represent the breed of parasites which infect our psyche. The mahatma's are supposed to live a simple life rather they live a much evolved lavish life. A dream for a common man is a reality for them, when the 'janta' struggles for a loaf of bread , these mahatmas are served in glistening gold and silver platters.
My sarcasm is not aimed for any particular person nor am i advocating for any political party. But it is aimed at all ignorant people who blindly follow the fad. How many of us really understand the meaning of Lokpal Bill and the benefits that trail behind? In India, the Jan Lokpal Bill (Hindi- जन लोकपाल विधेयक) is a proposed anti- corruption law designed to effectively deter corruption, redress grievances and protect whistle blowers. Its an independent body with the power to prosecute politicians and bureaucrats without prior government permission.

The bill was collaboratively drafted by Shanti Bhushan, retired Indian Police Service officer Kiran Bedi, JusticeN. Santosh Hegde, advocate Prashant Bhushan, and former chief election commissioner J.m.Lyndoh, in wide public consultation with the leaders of the India Against Corruption movement and civil society. The original bill was mooted by the National Campaign for Peoples’ Right to Information (NCPRI) in its delegated committee. The bill proposes the institution of the office of Lokpal at the center and local Lokavukta at the state level.
According to the Government of India Lokpal website, bill draft version 2.3 is now under consideration.
For last 42 years, the government-drafted bill has failed to pass the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Parliament of India. The first Lokpal Bill was passed in the 4th Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Parliament, in 1969 but stalled in the Rajya Sabha. Subsequent Lokpal bills were introduced in 1971, 1977, 1985, 1989, 1996, 1998, 2001, 2005 and 2008 but all failed to pass.
So what we fail to get in last 42 years cannot be won in 42 hrs of hunger strikes and ultimatum or blaming on a single government. It is a sheer act of blackmailing and playing with the emotions and sentiments. which remindis me of Homi Bhabha's essay of mimicry turning into mockery.
